Unit and Organizational Fundraisers
When preparing a unit fundraiser, the request must be made through an AF Form 1768, Staff Summary Sheet, (see sample) through the following organizations: Unit Commander, 14 SPTG.SV (Services), AAFES (if it is a food sale or event at the BX), 14 MDOS/SGOAM (Public Health), 14 FTW/JA (Legal) and 14 SPTG/CD (Support Group Deputy Commander) for approval.
- The fundraiser must be for the sole purpose of raising money for legitimate purchases of an organization. It cannot be for any personal gain. THE SSS must reveal what the money will be used for. Contributions to the fundraiser must be shown to be truly voluntary; individuals should not be forced to give out of fear of censure or criticism. Pursuant to AFI 236-3101, Table 1, Rule 4, the only non-CFC and AFAF related fundraising activities authorized during the CFC and AFAF are those supporting local internal programs occurring away from the workplace. Fundraisers cannot detract from the CFC or AFAF.
- Per AFI 34-223, paragraph 10.8, food item fundraisers cannot compete with base providers. In particular, you cannot have a flight line sale during lunch hours since this directly competes with Robin Hood/Anthony’s Pizza. Food item sales on the flight line in morning, during breakfast hours or evenings, are permissible. You can have a food item sale on the south side of Simler Blvd (e.g. Freedom Park or Community Center) at any time because this does not practically compete with Robin Hood/Anthony’s Pizza.
- For the food items, the general rules are quick, simple, prepared on the spot or purchased. Public Health standards prohibit the sale of homemade items for fund-raisers.
- Car washes, or similar fundraisers, involving military and civil service members, must be done on off-duty time, and not in uniform.
What you
can do:
Sell food in the morning on flight line
Sell purchased food in evening on flight line
Have a car wash at the BX on a Saturday
Have an occasional, infrequent raffle
Advertise discreetly in the office area
What you
cannot do:
Sell hamburgers on flight line during lunch
Sell homemade chili, etc. anytime
Have a car wash with members in uniform
Have a weekly bingo game and pocket profit
Put flyers in mailboxes in military family housing
- There certainly will be unique cases. If you have questions about whether your fundraiser will be approved, please call the Support Group office at 434-7093.
